First of all, let me just say that it was awesome to see such a good turnout at the first teen Mass at OLV this past weekend. While we were hopeful for a good response, the number of people who did make it to the 7:00 Mass was encouraging, so thank you! And thanks, too, for all those who stuck around for the youth group meeting after the Mass. It looked like the group really enjoyed themselves and we were able to make over 80 Valentines for the residents of Bayley Place! What an accomplishment! And despite the huge amount of snow and horrible driving conditions, I must thank Alexander Lewis and his mother for making the trip to drop them off so that the residents could have their Valentines in time for their St. Valentine’s Day Party!

Next I want to make sure you all know about the upcoming information meeting for World Youth Day 2011 that is happening on Wednesday, February 24th from 7-9 pm! As I have advertised all over the place, the pilgrimage is for teens who will be 16 or older as of August 2011. However, all teens and parents of teens who are interested are encouraged to come. We will be sure to have snacks and drinks like we had at our meeting and we will provide you with all the information you need to make your decision. This will most likely be the last informational meeting on World Youth Day before we need people to sign up.

The meeting will run pretty simply: short video, short witness from someone who has attended World Youth Day, informational presentation, and time for any questions you may have.

Hope to see you there! In the meantime, check out the official World Youth Day Website and start interacting with all the information, videos, pictures, etc. that is available there and if you have a Facebook page or Twitter, you can start following the official news. For a glimpse into what to expect, check out this video and get excited!

We have officially entered into the modern age of Facebook and have created a ‘Fan Page’ for everyone in the parish who would like to know more about and keep updated on the goings on of the youth group. The great thing about this is that anyone who is already on Facebook will be automatically updated each time more information becomes available on upcoming events, meetings, fundraisers, etc. The down side is that you must be on Facebook to view the site.

For those of you not on Facebook, don’t worry. We will continue to update the blog as well and keep it as up to date as possible. Additionally, we will be using this site as a place for more “thought provoking” material and for posting information we discuss at the meetings. So, check in at both sites if you can and we’ll see you soon!

Check out our upcoming events page for the latest news on our upcoming events.  We have several things going on in the months of April and May.  Here are the highlights:

  • This weekend’s Prayer Walk has been cancelled.
  • Everybody is welcome to join us to walk the steps at the Church of the Immaculata on Holy Thursday night at 11:15 pm.
  • Our next Fr. Reutter Fundraiser Collection for Alive in You is on the weekend of April 26th
  • We are going Rock Climbing at Rock Quest on April 25th!
  • Next month’s Youth Group meeting is on the First Sunday of the Month!
  • We can no longer do Biggs Bagging and so we must think of other ways to raise money outside our parish. Any thoughts?

We hope you can make it to all these events. If you have any suggestions for other events, or topics for our monthly meetings, please let us know!

Meeting Recap and Some Business January 23, 2008

First of all, thanks to all of you who made it to our meeting on Sunday!!  Though we know it got rather uncomfortable for many of you, but your ability to talk openly and honestly in front of the entire group was very reassuring for us!  Thank you, thank you, thank you! For those who were not able to make it to the meeting, please know that you are always welcome and that we encourage each and every one of you to take some time to seriously think about what God wants of you in your life!  After all, that is what a vocation is all about, doing what God wants you to do and taking joy in knowing that you are doing what your Father asks. As Fr. Reutter said at the meeting, there is a natural attraction to married life, but we must be careful not to “fall into it” as if we are all called to live that life.  No matter what we decide is our path, we must make that decision in prayer and conversation with Jesus.

Secondly, anybody who wants their pictures from Sunday night, please send me an email or just post a comment.  I didn’t write everyone’s name down so I don’t want to forget anyone.

Thirdly, we look forward to seeing all of you for our next meeting on Sunday, February 10th from 7-9.  We will be discussing Christian Love, making Valentine’s Decorations for the Bayley Place Nursing Home and having a Valentine’s Day party as well.  If you want, please feel free to bring a snack to share at the party and Valentines to hand out.

Fourthly, please see our new Upcoming Events page and mark all the events on your calendars.  I do not have all the details about several of the events, but will be posting them as I get them.  As Marianne and I get used to this Youth Ministry thing, we will be planning more and more events, fundraisers, prayer opportunities, and community service projects, so you’ll have to start checking back often to keep up to date.

Finally, the most important deadline that is fast approaching is the registration deadline for Alive in You!  This is going to be an amazing experience and for the price of less than $300 plus the cost of transportation it is very affordable.  Our hope is to raise enough money to allow each person who signs up to go for free.  I’ll try to post additional information, but also check your emails or click on the link above!
