It is that time of year again, a time when we begin to prepare for the birth of our Lord at Christmas and we register our group for our summer mission trip with Alive in You! It seems silly to combine those two into one sentence, but, hey, they both involve lots of preparation, anticipation, and excitement, so we’ll go with it. Also, while Jesus’ birth is far superior in importance to, well, anything, it is precisely the news of his birth, death and resurection that we have been called to spread as a Catholic Church. That is our mission; that is our purpose in going on Alive in You!
This year’s trip will be June 26-July 2, 2012 and we’ll be serving the people of Greensboro, NC. The theme this year is THE SOURCE, which references Catechism paragraph #1324 when it refers to the Eucharist as “the source and summit of the Christian life.” As in years past, participants will be crammed into cars for a long drive to the event, followed by 5 nights of sleeping on hard classroom floors, late nights, early mornings and hard work. Oh and a live band, good food, lots of high energy games and craziness, a chance to meet people from across the nation and overall a conference and mission trip that is sure to please anybody who attends and will challenge you to grow as a Catholic and as a child of God.
If this sounds interesting to you, here are the details you’ll need to know:
- Cost: $300 per person plus the cost of transportation (approximately $100-150)
- Ages: Graduating 8th graders and older
- Registration deadline: initial numbers will be submitted on November 30th. Final numbers will be submitted no later than January 30th
- Registration process: All who attend are asked to submit a non-refundable deposit of $80 with their registration to the OLV Parish Office. Upon registration you agree that you are responsible for the entire cost of the event and that in order to receive money from our group fundraisers, you must participate.
If you are on the fence about whether or not you want to go but are definitely interested, please leave a message and I’ll put you on a standby list and keep bugging you until you agree to come with us tabs on your decision process! We would love to have you join us this year and I look forward to having the largest group at the camp!
